Thereโs something magical about the first shot with a new camera. Itโs like opening a window to a fresh perspective, a new way of seeing the world. And for me, that moment happened in the vibrant streets of Douala, right in the middle of a busy market trip with my wife and son.
I had just received my brand new Nikon Z6 III, and the excitement was too strong to resist. I couldnโt just leave it at home. I had to take it out, feel its weight in my hands, hear the soft click of the shutter, and see the world through its brand-new lens. So, as we made our way through the market, picking up fresh produce and soaking in the colors and chaos, I kept my camera slung over my shoulder, waiting for the perfect moment.
It didnโt take long.
Meeting with the Young Seller
As we were stepping out of the market, I saw her: a young woman sitting in front of her neatly arranged fruits, her bright red outfit standing out against the backdrop of vibrant greens and yellows. Her hair, woven with red braids, mirrored the warmth of her smile. There was something so naturally beautiful about her presence: unposed, confident, and effortlessly radiant.
I knew instantly: this had to be the first shot.
I gestured towards my camera, asking for permission with a smile. She responded with an even brighter one. I framed the shot, adjusted my settings, and clicked. The Nikon Z6 III had its first story to tell.
Looking at the image now, I realize it captures more than just a beautiful smile in a lively market. It holds the essence of Douala, the warmth of its people, the richness of its colors, and the everyday beauty that makes life worth capturing.
This wasnโt just a test shot. It was a reminder of why I do this.
In every journey, a story worth telling.
